Benton Eastchurch.  Wealthy American businessman, but not super rich. Married with two sons and a daughter and seven grandchildren. All of them live in America. His wife has more or less turned a blind eye to his philandering. A descendant of the original accuser who brought the case against the women. Confident, arrogant, sexist "alpha" male.

Georgie Edwards

Bright intelligent and determined, Georgie is the nephew of Temperance LLoyd, one of the women hung for witchcraft. Killed in 1691, he is a ghost and androgynous, with understanding of pagan rituals. He seeks for revenge for the death of his Aunt.

Male, aged 20 and over

Jenny LLoyd

Bright, organised and sociable and a member of the local coven, she is the landlady of the pub. A descendant of Temperance lloyd, she uses her knowledge and influence for the good of the community. She instigates and organises the scenario that leads to the dénouement.

Female, aged 48 and over

Sally Edwards

Sally is an intelligent graduate and member of the local Coven. She is bubbly and personable and has aspirations for greater things. One of her skills is acting, having appeared in local theatre productions, a skill she will use to good effect in this narrative.

Female, aged 31 and over

Sir Thomas Raymond

A traditional judge, He is intelligent and aware of the politics of the law. Reluctant to use capital punishment, he finds himself confronted by the mob who demand the women be hung, and bends to their will.

Thomas Eastchurch

The main accuser. Age 40 ish. A local shopkeeper who told the town constables that he suspected Temperance Lloyd of using witchcraft to cause the illness of a local woman, Grace Thomas. A determined and proud man, bigoted, with a clear belief in his own religious views.

Women in the pub

There are a number of women who are members of the local coven and have small speaking roles. Generally convinced that the three  hanged women were in fact murdered by the state, they share feminist views of the world, and are accepting of a wide range of gender and social preferences.

We have a mix of roles from police officers in 1682, to background women in the pub, to members of the mob that call for the hanging of the three women.

The three women who are executed

All three women are from peasant backgrounds, and are terrified by the situation they find themselves in. Under pressured, they are subject to torture to extract confessions. Despite strong personal qualities they are destroyed by the process of the law.
